Peter was weighing in the last few fish as Sondra—one of the summies—stood toward the back of the line, ready to cut off additional entries the moment time ran out.

Nikki and the other rangers stood around watching. Someone may have died during her event, but Nikki seemed to be in okay spirits. Other than that, the event had gone relatively well, as far as I knew.

“Five, four, three—” the crowd began to count down as the official end of the weigh-in came to a close.

“Two—”

“Wait!” A voice said over the noise. Molly appeared at the far side of the plaza, out of breath, holding a massive fish. “I have one more.”

I turned to see Becca’s face turn bright red.

“Well, bring it on up,” Peter said, finishing with the last fish that was in line.

Cameras, including Logan’s, captured the scene from every different angle.

“This woman is a master fisherman,” Logan said when she came to stand next to me, her camera still trained on Molly and the fish. “You should have seen her reel that thing in.”

The fish flopped around—its massive gelatinous-looking body flexing and squirming as Peter tried to get a weight.

“This is spectacular,” Peter said. “Forty-two pounds, twelve ounces. We have our winner!”

He probably wasn’t supposed to say that, but he was obviously caught up in the moment.

Molly jumped up and down like a kid on Christmas Day. Becca looked like she might snap Molly’s neck.

“How could she?” Becca said.

“How could she what?” Logan asked.

Becca turned as if she was just noticing Logan’s existence. “She couldn’t let him win even after he was blown to bits just hours ago,” Becca said. “And look at her so happy. She never cared about him. She killed him. Mark my words.”

Before Logan or I could say anything else, Becca turned and left.

“She’s dramatic,” Logan said.

“She’s a pro-wrestler.”

“Bombastic Becca.” Logan nodded. “I’m a sports reporter, remember?”

I laughed. “Sorry.” Then a thought popped into my head. “Hey, how long were you with Molly?”

“Practically all day,” Logan said. “She was—is—my main story.”

“Did she do anything that might implicate her in Jess’s murder?”

“Not that I can think of,” Logan said. “But I have her entire day recorded. We can go over it. I wouldn’t mind a pizza night again, and we can work on the zip tie trick.”

The last time Logan and I had a pizza night, I’d found a dead-end to an investigation I was helping with. But it was still fun.

“Pizza night it is,” I said.
